About Us

Lucas General Contractors was established in 1985 as Lucas Bros. Two Brothers, Owen and Harry Lucas, started a business as fencing and hay contractors. From this foundation they expanded their business as Owen moved forward with the fencing and welding while Harry branched off with the hay contracting, and farming.

In 1992, Owen changed the name to Lucas General Contractors as he did more and more of welding and steel fabrication.

Tom, our workshop manager has been with Lucas General Contractors since 1993 and Owen and Tom have worked together to build the perfect business relationship as Tom manages the workshop while Owen manages the on site jobs.

Owen's son Rodney Lucas completed his apprenticeship at Lucas General Contractors before travelling for a period of time, gaining further skills and experience in a variety of different aspects. Rodney returned to the family business but preferred the rural area of Gundagai to the Southern Highlands. The family decided this would be a great opportunity to open another branch in South Gundagai for Rod to run the business and utilise the family connections and contacts within the area.

Owen's daughter Neasha started studying drafting while working for the family business. With the experience and knowledge that Neasha received whilst working on the various projects, she decided to further her career by studying civil and structural engineering. Neasha is still a valued employee at Lucas General Contractors doing council plans for development applications and workshop drawings.

Owen's wife Jean looks after all the accounts for both branches and has done so for many years and is valuable support to all the family working within the company.
